Dr. Brooke Kugler

Dr. Brooke Kugler always thought she wanted to be a vet and confirmed this after she spent a week as a teenager travelling around with her local veterinarian in rural Connecticut. After seeing sick ducks, pigs and cows in addition to dogs and cats, she was completely convinced veterinary medicine was the right path for her.

Dr. Kugler attended Bates College in Maine where she received a BS in Biochemistry and then the Royal Veterinary College in London, England. After graduating from vet school in 2001, she returned to the US and settled in Colorado where much of her family had migrated during her time in England. Dr. Kugler’s ultimate love is for small animals (of all kinds!). She enjoys caring for animals throughout all life stages and loves getting to know both the pets and their families.

Dr. Kugler lives with her husband, three daughters, 3 cats: Daisy (named after the cows in England because she is black and white), Willow (because she has a big fluffy tail that looks like a Weeping Willow tree) and Boo (who loves to play peek-a-boo, so you never quite know where she is!), a bearded dragon, Didger (named after the didgeridoo instrument in Australia) and assorted fish. In her spare time she loves to be outside: skiing, hiking, camping, gardening and adventuring with her family in general. She is also busy in the Lafayette Community with school events, Chamber gatherings and other festival events. Her roots are firmly planted in Lafayette as she loves the small town feel, seeing friends around town, and the beautiful view of the mountains as she drives to work every day!

Dr. Mary Esh

Mary Esh grew up in Norman, Oklahoma.  She received her undergraduate degree from Bryn Mawr College.  She went on to graduate from the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine in 2003.  After working in small animal practice in Pennsylvania, she and her husband moved out to Colorado to be closer to family and to the mountains.  She now considers Colorado home.

Since moving to Colorado in 2007, Dr. Esh has been working as an associate veterinarian at North Boulder Companion Animal Hospital.  She is happy to continue being a part of the companion animal hospital group at the Lafayette hospital.  Dr. Esh has special interests in feline medicine and behavior.  Sometimes called a cat whisperer, she likes working with any cat to help them receive the gentle care that they need.

Dr. Esh finds veterinary medicine very rewarding.  She values the relationships that she forms between families and patients.  She understands the amazing joys and stresses that can come with pet ownership.  As a veterinarian, she hopes to provide good medical advice through open communication with clients.

Dr. Esh lives in Boulder with her husband and two boys.  She spends most of her free time at playgrounds, parks, and pools.  Her hobbies include yoga and hiking or just spending time with her sweet yellow lab mix, Jenny and crazy Husky/American Eskimo mix Odin.

Sophie Bernstein

Sophie is a Colorado native who grew up wanting every animal under the sun. Though her family was only a “dog family”, she got to spend summers at camp playing with goats, chickens, and riding horses, satisfying her need for further animal care and interaction. She has always loved the sciences, especially biology, and since she can remember, has watched shows about birth and surgery. On her 10th birthday she spent the day at Sea World and had dinner with Shamu, sparking her interest in marine sciences. Sophie then attended the University of Miami where she double majored in Marine Science and Biology. While in Miami, Sophie honed in on the way she wanted to work with animals after joining the pre-vet club and starting to volunteer at a local small animal clinic.

After graduation in 2016 Sophie returned home to Boulder and began working at a dog rescue. Shortly thereafter her four-legged son and light-of-her-life, Moose, came into her life and forever changed it for the better. During this time, Sophie also began shadowing an equine vet, building her experience hours necessary to apply to vet school. In April of 2018, she was offered an assistant/technician position at LCAH and has loved her time with the team, getting to grow and learn something new every day. Sophie is planning to apply to vet school this upcoming summer, looking at CSU, UC Davis, and a few other schools. At this point she thinks she would like to work with large exotics and would like to specialize in some type of surgery.

Katie LaClair

Katie was born and raised in Virginia. She grew up with many pets; at one point she had over 10 pets in one house! When she was four, she asked for a "yellow and orange kitty" and wouldn't stop asking until she got him for her birthday. With time, Katie's love for animals expanded far beyond cats and dogs. Any family vacation she went on, she begged to go to aquariums and zoos. She swam with bottle nose dolphins, pacific white-sided dolphins, stingrays, giant sea turtles, beluga whales, manta rays, whale sharks and a variety of sharks. Most recently, her dream came true of swimming with wild spinner dolphins in Hawaii's open ocean in the summer of 2015 with her best friend. She participated in a college program at Sea World San Antonio where she got a first-hand look at what goes into caring and vetting for these marine mammals each and every day, even orca whales. Later, she volunteered at the Smithsonian Conservation Biology Institute in Front Royal, VA where she assisted with the endangered black-footed ferrets, red crowned cranes, red pandas, kiwis and other endangered animals. Katie got to help care for and prepare some of the SCBI black-footed ferrets for departure to be relocated to a wild prairie ranch in CO.... who knew she'd end up here too?! She loves the fact that she was able to help reintroduce a once feared extinct animal back into their wild, native habitat.

Katie relocated to Colorado in the summer of 2018 with her boyfriend, driving over a three day span with all of her dogs! She spent years at an internal medicine department of a veterinary referral center, working both as reception and veterinary assistant under the most recognized specialists in Virginia.  When she relocated, she had many opportunities within different veterinary hospitals- but she chose LCAH due to the welcoming atmosphere and compassion shown. Katie is enjoying working at LCAH and learning all the aspects of technician work, phlebotomy and wound care. She just recently added on marketing to her to-do list. Her love for animals coupled with her passion for helping them shows. She makes sure a pup doesn't leave without a cookie!

Katie enjoys exploring her new home and romping around with her 3 rescues- Ashes, blue heeler/german shepherd mix, Trooper and Rika, german shepherds. She can't wait to go hiking and explore all the fun outdoor things Colorado has to offer. She most recently picked up listening to audible books while she has her pretty mountain view drive to work each day!  She also loves her role as an auntie to a little guy named Travis, but misses him a ton as he is back in Virginia!

Brandi Redwine

Brandi knew she wanted to work within the veterinary field since she was first asked in kindergarten by her teacher. She grew up nurturing her stuffed animals back to health with Band-Aids and love. As soon as she was old enough, she applied for an internship where she was chosen as one of two students across Colorado to participate in volunteer work at a local veterinary clinic. After her internship, she was offered a vet assistant position at the same clinic, where she worked throughout college.

Brandi graduated from Colorado State University with a degree in Biomedical Sciences. While attending CSU, she volunteered her time at the Larimer Humane Society and was granted a volunteer opportunity within the anesthesiology department at the CSU Vet Teaching Hospital. In addition to volunteer work, she was a teacher’s assistant for the animal anatomy department and devoted many hours helping her fellow college students. After school, she was offered a veterinary technician position at LCAH and has worked there since July 2010. She loves all aspects of the position, and has a special interest in anesthesia.

Brandi enjoys taking part in daring and adventurous activities in her free time. Skydiving has been her biggest adventure yet and plans to cross bungee jumping off her list soon. She also loves camping, wake boarding, jet skiing and amusement parks. When not outdoors enjoying the sunshine, she can be found dancing the night away with friends or watching the Detroit Red Wings hockey team on TV.

Brandi lives with her 7-year-old Border Collie/Cattle Dog mix named, Zoey. She enjoys taking her to local dog parks and playing Frisbee or snuggling on the couch watching scary movies together. She is full of energy and spoiled rotten. Adopting her from the humane society was the best decision she had ever made. She would love to adopt a capybara (her favorite animal) someday if possible.

 Ariel Sexson

Ariel knew from the age of 6 she would work with animals her whole life. She loves all creatures big and small. Ariel has had experience with horses since she was 6 months old and actually started her first job as a lesson instructor when she was 14. She then moved to smaller animals by working at a local pet food store. After many trials Ariel realized she just wanted to help animals and their owners. She joined the Lafayette Companion team in 2016 and couldn’t be more excited to learn from the fabulous staff. In her spare time Ariel spends time with her Boston terrier mix, Kiera and her 2 cats, Khaleessi and Drogon.
